Its durable aluminium frame is designed to handle intense use session after session, while responsive upholstery keeps you supported. A commercial-standard 12mm footbar and robust jumpboard system bring studio-level performance home, and five springs across two resistance levels give you the opportunity to keep levelling up.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is Pilates resistance training?

Technically yes, although some purists will say no. It uses bodyweight as resistance (or the reformer springs). Although it's common to add small weights to Pilates workouts, they aren't massive and certainly won't help you build massive guns via progressive overload, like a barbell might.

One advantage Pilates has over many other forms of strength and resistance training is endurance and full-body connection.

In short: Pilates is a form of resistance exercise that builds functional strength, endurance, and body control, but it doesn't deliver the same progressive overload as traditional weight training.

  • Does Pilates build muscle?

The short answer is yes, but, but not massive ones!

The long answer is: Pilates is solid at building muscular endurance and can improve strength if you challenge yourself enough, but it can be more limited at building muscle mass or size.

Pilates builds endurance, strength, and flexibility simultaneously, resulting in muscles that are supple and lean and a body that's well-connected. For those looking to build significant muscle size, combining Pilates with traditional strength training is the most effective strategy.

  • What’s the difference between mat Pilates and reformer Pilates?

Both mat Pilates and reformer Pilates focus on core strength, control, and movement quality.

Reformer Pilates uses a machine with springs and pulleys to provide adjustable resistance and support. This allows for a wider range of exercises, and can make movements more accessible or more challenging depending on your level.

Reformer Pilates may be a good option if you:

    • want more support when learning technique
    • are returning from injury or working within a limited range of movement
    • prefer guided, structured workouts
    • want to progressively increase resistance over time

Mat Pilates can still be highly effective, but the reformer offers more versatility and progression, particularly for at-home training.

  • How do I purchase using an interest-free payment option?

If you’d like to pay interest-free, please contact our team on 0800 119 153 to discuss the available options.

  • What is a Pilates pole?

A Pilates pole (also called a gondola pole or dowel) is a long, slim stick used during reformer and mat Pilates to support arm work, and improve balance.

The terms "dowel" and "Pilates pole" refer to the same thing—a dowel is simply the traditional wooden version. We've chosen a metal pole for greater durability, so it won't warp or weaken over time. We've also selected a length that's long enough for standing balance exercises on the reformer, while still being practical to thread through the loops—something many standard dowels fall short on.

  • What is a jumpboard used for?

A jumpboard is a platform that replaces the foot bar on the reformer, which allows you to perform jumping movements while lying down.

This takes a massive load off the joints compared to jumping standing up. It also adds a cardio and lower body strength element to your Pilates session, while the reformer's adjustable spring resistance controls the intensity.

Adding a jumpboard to your routine is great for bone density, coordination, and athletes looking to build explosive power.

  • How much time do I need each week?

That depends on your goals. Many members start with just 10–20 minute sessions a few times per week.

Because the platform is on-demand, you can fit movement into real life:

    • Before work
    • During lunch breaks
    • After the kids are in bed
    • As part of recovery or mobility routines

The monthly planners help remove overwhelm and make consistency realistic.
